When the going gets tough, the tough go gaming.

Of course there’s always work to do, and the more of it you do the more of it you generate somewhere else along the line.

So if I grade these 30 papers that means the class progresses to generate 30 more papers sooner. If it’s five classes with 30 papers each, that’s 150 papers generating 150 more. It’s like a population explosion except with student homework assignments in place of hungry mouths.

And with all that math in my head you’d think I’d know better than to let the tide of papers go unabated.

There was only one solution this past weekend: geek it up.

I played in a Warmachine tournament Saturday (won’t bother with the details here). With grades on my mind, I packed my toy soldiers and came out fighting.

All in all, I had a horrible turnout (again, won’t bore you with the details here) as I went 1-3 (that’s as far as I’ll bore you with details). Yet somehow, I came home with a patch.

Consolation prizes. Gotta love em’.

Of course, the winning of a prize completely justifies any loss of productivity. Everyone knows that the morale boost of a trophy covers up for the fact that you didn’t do squat for that day except roll dice and measure distances between pieces of shiny metals (again, not bothering with details).

And look, I seem to have signed up for a six-week league….
