We were watching the Bears game today vs. the Seahawks when I decided to stop watching, write this post, and then re-read Ender’s Game instead. Why? Because to me, the game seemed like a fun game to watch. Both teams were up and scoring, both teams were making mistakes, both teams were demonstrating some of their best features. But our home team wasn’t dominating.
My wife doesn’t like that.
It’s not a lack of competition in my blood, it’s a desire to see a good game. I want good players on both teams to make good plays. If a player blunders, I don’t want it to be the result of a random mishap but pressure from another team.
Watching a massacre doesn’t do much for me.
So right now, Seattle’s up 3 points or something and I’m going to read a book about children being trained to win wars because throughout the book Ender shows that he can adapt and rise to occassions stacked against him. He doesn’t develop into a dominant force that nobody can stop on an even field. The field changes and handicaps against him and so Ender improvises, and improves.
Someone tell me when the game is over.
