Gotrek
Gurnisson

I am robbed of a mighty death, manling.
Trollslayer by
William King
Description
Gotrek seeks a mighty death in battle with creatures to
pay for some shameful act in the Dwarven kingdoms. In order to seek
that death, he seeks battle with bigger and bigger monsters, and as
the books progress the works of Chaos become more and more prevalent
as he somehow manages to survive every encounter with his Rememberer,
Felix Jaeger.
Trollslayer is the first of his books in Gotrek's
Death Saga. It is episodic and set in the Warhammer world (not to be
confused with Warcraft), and in it there are all sorts of daemonic influences
for Gotrek and Felix to uncover, and slay.
Character classes
Slayer
A slayer seeks out mighty creatures to kill him. They
are suicidal, for they wish to die, but they are also proud Dwarven
warriors, so they fight as hard as they can to live. Needless to say,
Gotrek is one of the better ones and manages to stay alive while facing
impossible odds.
Stone Mason
All Dwarfs are familiar with stonework and the building
of stone, and Gotrek is no exception.
Abilities
Battleaxe
Gotrek is highly skilled with his two handed battleaxe.
Berserk
Sometimes his battlerage is such that he no longer knows
if he's fighting friend or foe.
Fearless
When in battle a slayer knows no fear for they are ready
to die.
Tough
A Slayer wears no armor, but counts on Fate and his
hardiness to help him survive many battles.
Building and Defenses
When a building requires additional defenses, Gotrek
can lay the groundwork and direct the workers.
Constitution
Dwarves drink a lot of ale.
Dwarven Lore
The stories go back 3000 years, long before humans ever
built their own civilizations.
Equipment
Starmetal axe
Made from metal from a fallen star, the axe glows with
blue runes. Before combat, Gotrek cuts his thumb on the axeblade.
Allies
There are far more than listed here, but allies also turn
out to become enemies, so I've left most of the names out so you can
discover which ones for yourself.
Felix Jaeger
Felix was rescued by Gotrek and, in a drunken stupor,
swore a life debt to follow Gotrek and record his adventures.
Faragrim
Giver of the quest to Karag Eight Peaks.
Enemies
Wolf Riders
Goblins hound them in the moutain passes, together with
their wolves.
Slaanesh cultists
Servants of Chaos, they worship in the woods and make
sacrifices to bring about daemons and change.
Warp troll
Exposed to the hideous effects of Warpstone, a warp
troll is far more fearsome than a regular troll, which is saying a
lot.
Daemon Prince Kazakital
A follower of Khorne, the blood god, Daemon Princes
are one of the links that devoted chaos followers have in the Old
World.
Justine
A Chosen warrior of Khorne, she wields a mighty hellblade
and rides a shadow steed.
Beastmen
Cannibalistic creatures of Chaos which ironically, Felix
Jaeger notes, have the heads of herbivores.
Albericht Kruger
A master of mutants and terrorizer of villages
Manfred von Diehl
Blasphemous playwright who succumbs to evil.
Voorman the Sorceror
A sorceror who wants to take on the aspect of the Children
of Ulric (werewolves)
The Black Coach
An umarked coach said to be driven by daemons.
Exploration
Geheimnisnacht
A night when the Chaos powers are at their fullest.
Empire villages
Your typical medieval village of the Empire has uneducated
laborers, secret cults, and quests galore.
The vaults of Karag Eight Peaks
Treasure abounds in the lost vaults of the Dwarf Lords.
Treasure, and ghosts.
Blutdorf Keep
A place with mutants aplenty
Quests
Rescue the child
Children are often kidnapped by cultists for sacrifices.
Protect the child
The Chaos Chosen Justine seeks to destroy one single
girl, and will chop through Felix and Gotrek to get to her.
Lift the curse
Of course the treasures of Karag Eight Peaks is cursed.
What other reason is there to go?
Defend the village/count
Count von Diehl requires protection from the roving
bands that threaten the edges of the Empire.
Gather the sunblossom
Alchemists and such tend to give adventurers gathering
quests for materials in their potions and brews.
